Of import: To avert immediate meter dam age, never utilise a multimeter to an electrical circuit where voltage is present.

Disconnect the iii-pin Deutsch connector between the instrument harness and engine trim harness. Connect an ohmmeter between the white/tan wire, last "C," of the engine harness and a make clean engine ground.

With the outboard fully DOWN, meter must evidence a reading above 80 Ω.

With the outboard fully Upward, meter must bear witness a reading below 10 Ω.

  • If results concur, refer to Trim Estimate Test on p. 291.
  • If results are different, replace trim sender.

TRIM AND TILT SERVICE

Removal

Remove lower engine cover and disconnect the trim/tilt connectors. Refer to LOWER Comprehend SERVICE on p. 82.

Remove the condom grommet from the blue/green trim/tilt cable connector.

Remove the terminals from the connector by using a suitable tool to depress the tab. While the tab is depressed, pull on the wire from the rear of the connector to release it from the connector.

Separate the trim/tilt unit wires in the braided tube to permit removal through
the pigsty in the stern bracket.

Unscrew the manual release valve, raise the unit, and lock it in place with the tilt back up.

Remove the external snap rings from the upper pin.

Use a punch to remove the upper pivot.

Retract the tilt cylinder rod.

Remove the external snap rings from the lower pin.

Use a punch to remove the lower pin and remove the trim/tilt unit from the stern brackets.

Remove the unit from the stern brackets far enough to remove the basis lead from the pump motor mounting screw.

Disassembly

Disassembly

Thoroughly clean the unit before disassembling. Scrub all outside surfaces with a stiff brush and hot, soapy water to preclude surface clay from contaminating internal parts.

Always use a lint free shop material when handling power trim/tilt components.

If painting the unit is required, paint it subsequently it is completely assembled. Painting of individual components may cause flakes of paint to enter the hydraulic passages during associates. Tape the trim/tilt piston rods before painting.

There may exist high pressure backside some power trim valves. To avert injury
when removing manual release valve, be sure to cover valve with a shop cloth until the
force per unit area is released. Article of clothing safety glasses.

IMPORTANT: Before removing manual release valve, relieve pressure by fully extending cylinder.

Screw the manual release valve in. Remove the retaining ring using a small selection or screwdriver. Discard the retaining ring.

Slowly remove the manual release valve. There may be pressure behind the valve—habiliment safety glasses.

Inspect the transmission release valve. Discard the O-rings on the housing.

Remove the four large motor flange retaining screws. Remove the motor and discard O-band, screws, and washers.

Remove drive coupler from either the motor or the pump assembly.

Associates

IMPORTANT: Employ just Evinrude/Johnson Bio degradable TNT Fluid to fill the hydraulic system.

Install drive coupler in pump assembly.

Install a new motor O-band.

Position the motor on the manifold and install four new screws and lock washers. Tighten the screws 35 to 50 in. lbs. (4 to 5.half-dozen N•m).

Oil O-rings and install them on the manual release valve. Oil and install the transmission release valve. Tighten the valve to a torque of 45 to 55 in. lbs. (5.ane to 6.2 North•m).

Install new retaining ring in groove.

Fill the oil reservoir upwards to the make full plug with Evinrude/Johnson Biodegradable TNT Fluid. Install and tighten the make full plug. Do not torque the plug at this time.

  1. Reservoir cap

Run the motor, then recheck oil level. Wheel the unit of measurement several times and cheque the oil level when the cylinder is fully extended. Oil should exist level with bottom of fill port. Install and tighten the make full plug to a torque of 45 to 55 in. lbs. (v.one to 6.2 N•m).

Installation

Install the basis lead.

Identify trim/tilt unit into position. Apply Triple-Guard grease to the lower pin and install the pivot.

If loosened, tighten the tilt tube nut to a torque of 45 to 50 ft. lbs. (61 to 68 N·thousand).

Install external snap rings on lower pivot with precipitous edge of ring facing out.

Extend tilt cylinder rod to match with holes in hinge subclass.

Apply Triple-Guard grease to upper pin and install the pin.

Install external snap rings onto upper pin with sharp edge facing out.
